Steve Vick International’s Expert Flowstopping in Hethersett
July 25, 2024
Steve Vick International’s Contract Services team recently undertook a project in the picturesque village of Hethersett in Norfolk. This project was commissioned by Cadent and involved the execution of a 1″ 1 Way Medium Pressure flowstopping operation. The task was critical to facilitate a new Medium Pressure service relay to Wychwood House, which is currently being restored to its former glory.
Using our innovative FOAMBAG™ technique, the team carried out the flowstopping operations on the medium pressure gas service. The FOAMBAG™ technique is renowned for its versatility and efficiency, capable of handling pipes from 3/4″ up to 8″ at pressures up to 2 bar.
Shane Wright, Customer Operations Supervisor from Cadent Gas, who oversaw the project, was highly impressed with the team’s performance. He shared, “The Steve Vick International team executed the job flawlessly. Their expertise and the effectiveness of the FOAMBAG™ technique ensured a smooth and efficient operation, with minimal disruption.”
The FOAMBAG™ Technique
Over 40 years ago, Steve Vick International developed the FOAMBAG™, a cost-effective flowstopping system utilising expanding resin foam. This technique has become popular in the industry due to its simplicity and effectiveness across various pipe materials, including cast iron, steel, and PE. Its versatility allows it to be used on vertical or tapering pipes, bends, and non-standard diameters.
One of the significant advantages of the FOAMBAG™ technique is the minimal pipe exposure required, which results in considerably smaller excavations and reduced reinstatement costs. This makes it an ideal solution in areas where space is limited.
Key Benefits of FOAMBAG™
- Compliance: Systems meet UK gas industry standard T/SP/E/59.
- Cost-Effective: Low cost, safe, and easy to use.
- Proven Technique: A well-established method in the industry.
- Space Efficiency: Requires less pipe length exposed than conventional methods.
- Versatility: Suitable for non-standard sizes, tapers, bends, and vertical pipework.
The FOAMBAG™ technique’s reliability and efficiency have made it an industry standard in the UK and a favoured method in many parts of the world, including mainland Europe, the USA, Scandinavia, and the Far East. The process works by inserting a semi-porous bag into the pipe to hold the foam in place as it expands. At full expansion, some foam seeps through the semi-porous material, adhering to the pipe wall to create a secure stop.
Within the UK, Steve Vick International’s Contract Services team have approval across all Gas Distribution Networks (GDNs) to execute medium pressure flowstopping up to 2bar on gas mains and services from 3/4″ up to 8″ diameter.
Conclusion
Steve Vick International’s recent project in Hethersett stands as a testament to the efficiency and reliability of the FOAMBAG™ technique. The success of the operation not only highlights our team’s expertise but also underscores the benefits of using solutions like FOAMBAG™ in gas network operations. As Wychwood House continues its journey towards restoration, we are proud to have played a part in its story, ensuring safe and efficient gas service delivery.
