Our Contract Services team were on site in Southen

Our Contract Services team were on site in Southend-on-Sea this week, carrying out four 1.5″ 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘀 in ground on behalf of Forefront Utilities.

It was great to work alongside Forefront Utilities on this project. Our team fitted, tested (using the Steve Vick SMARTester) and drilled the UPT, while Forefront Utilities laid the new PE service and connected onto the tee. We then foamed off the old service, removed a section, and fitted flexicaps on either side.

𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿 is a technique that allows a gas service to be partly re-laid and/or transferred to a new main without disrupting the customer’s gas supply. It’s a practical solution for multi-occupancy properties and supports the renewal of uninterrupted supplies for shops, restaurants, and hotels.

A big shout out to Jez Catchpole and Todd Hollocks from our Contract Services team, another project successfully delivered.

Using a highly accurate wireless gas pressure tester, traceable to accredited calibration equipment, each pressure test ensures precision and compliance with the latest policies and procedures.

Live test data is captured by the 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 app and, once a test is complete, securely submitted to the cloud-based 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 Portal. We’ve also recently launched 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲, a free tool within the 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 app and the first feature released in response to UP1b version 4 procedures impacting tightness testing. Developed in collaboration with EDF, EON, and Octopus to meet UP1b version 4 procedures, 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 quickly and accurately calculates the volume of pipework and fittings and enables meter operatives to calculate the permissible drop with confidence.

It was great to see our hire solutions in use recently with Utility Solutions Provider Ltd in Twickenham, supporting the delivery of multi utility works.

The team were using our Perpetual Pipe Pusher with a 5 tonne adaptor head, alongside our Super 160 trailer with CoilControl.

The Perpetual Pipe Pusher is an excavator attachment designed to continuously insert PE from 63mm up to 180mm. It connects easily to the quick hitch or standard bucket pins of an excavator, gripping the pipe, positioning it in the excavation and inserting it with precision. Once in place, the unit remains firmly anchored to the excavator arm while hydraulically driven rubberised rollers carry out the insertion. The entire operation is controlled safely from the cab, removing the need for operatives to handle pipe or enter the trench.

Our Super 160 trailers provide efficiency and ease when dispensing pipe across methods such as sliplining, open trench and directional drilling. They offer a safe and practical way to transport, store and dispense coiled PE.

CoilControl is compatible with any pipe coil trailer and further enhances safety by minimising the risks associated with stored energy in coiled pipe. It is engineered to straighten pipe from 125mm to 180mm, helping to create a safer and more efficient installation process.

We’re proud to celebrate an extraordinary milestone at Steve Vick International, 60 years in the gas industry for our Principal Engineer, David Goodall.

Starting as an apprentice in 1966, David’s career has spanned the transformation of the industry from town gas to natural gas conversion, senior leadership roles within British Gas, international engineering projects, technical innovation, and influential work in gas safety.

Beyond engineering, he has mentored future talent through the Royal Academy of Engineering, supported parliamentary safety initiatives with the All Party Parliamentary Carbon Monoxide Group, and been recognised as an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers.

A career defined by innovation, safety, mentorship and service and one we’re incredibly proud to celebrate.

It was great to see an SVI 50/90 Pipe Coil Trailer in use with @wwutilities in our hometown of Bradford on Avon last week.

The 50/90 Pipe Coil Trailer provides safe transport, storage and dispensing of coiled PE from 40mm up to 125mm. Our Pipe Coil Trailers are designed to offer efficiency and ease of dispensing across all common pipe laying methods, including sliplining, open trench and directional drilling, while providing a safe way to transport, store and dispense coiled PE.

The 50/90 Pipe Coil Trailer is the smallest trailer in the range, which makes it ideal for use in historic market towns like Bradford on Avon where streets can often be narrow. The trailer accommodates a 100 metre coil of 90mm PE or a 50 metre coil of 125mm PE.

If you’re working on projects within historic locations with narrow streets, the 50/90 trailer may be an ideal solution for your pipe installation projects.
