Steve Vick to exhibit large diameter pipe handling equipment at No Dig Live 2018

September 11, 2018

This year’s No Dig Exhibition in Peterborough will see Steve Vick International (SVI) demonstrating a comprehensive range of pipe handling equipment designed to fulfil the needs of Tier 2 and 3 GDN contractors repairing gas mains up to 1600mm diameter.

The company will be introducing a new larger ‘beak’ for their MACAW Pipe Cracker enabling it to break out cast iron mains, even inserted ones, up to 36” diameter. The MACAW Pipe Cracker offers safety, speed and efficiency. It attaches to the quick-hitch or bucket pins of an excavator allowing the operator to manoeuvre the beak around the pipe and apply controlled pressure to crack the pipe; all from the safety of the cab.

SVI’s range of Pipe Handlers is being expanded to accommodate diameters up to 1200mm. Visitors to the stand will see be able to see the 800mm model which efficiently manoeuvres, positions and inserts long lengths of pipe up to 800mm diameter at speeds of up to 10 metres per minute. Again, safety as well as speed is the focus with Pipe Handlers as they avoid the need for operatives to enter the trench and do away with the outdated ‘bucket and sling’ method.

Whilst SVI’s range of Rapid Window and Rotary Cutters for ductile iron and steel has expanded significantly in the last few years, it is the Keel Cutter which is an essential tool for contractors needing to carry out circumferential cuts on large diameter gas mains up to 1600mm diameter. On show on SVI’s stand, Keel Cutters automatically cut around steel, cast iron, ductile iron, plastic, cement and asbestos pipes in very short time and can be fitted with a special bevelled angle blade in preparation for welding.  SVI is the exclusive worldwide supplier of these machines.

Since the first coils of PE pipe were introduced in the 1980s SVI has been designing and manufacturing pipe coil trailers for their transportation and has sold literally thousands around the world. Their latest model, the Hexi Pipe Coil Trailer, will be on stand at No Dig. This is the first trailer of its type capable of transporting and dispensing a 500 metre coil of 63mm, 75mm or 90mm PE and has been proved to reduce pipe wastage and significantly decrease a company’s carbon footprint by cutting wastage as well as lowering excavation and associated costs.

“Being focused on the latest trenchless developments, products and services, No Dig Live is the ideal arena for us to show the industry that we are responding to their needs with our innovative range of pipe handling equipment,” says Katie Higgins, SVI Sales Director.
