January 4, 2015

In 2014 Steve Vick International (SVI) achieved first place in the ‘Best application of an innovative solution(s) with tangible savings/benefits – SME’ and were shortlisted for the highly commended ‘Ministers Award’ at the NDA Supply Chain Awards. The award was collected by SVI Nuclear Project Manager, Richard Ditte. Richard was consequently approached by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and asked to present at the UKTI Civil Nuclear Energy Showcase, an event hosted in partnership with the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA). UKTI had been impressed with SVI’s achievement at the NDA awards, and believed the showcase would be an excellent opportunity for SVI to show their capabilities within the nuclear sector.

SVI were invited to present a 15 minute arrangement at the session entitled ‘UK Innovation and manufacturing’ and chaired by Dr Brian McConnell, MD at Hydrock. Richard Ditte chose to present on the RSRL Harwell BEPO decommissioning project, SVI’s most technically challenging operation to date – and the project that ultimately won the NDA SME Innovation Award. The presentation gave an overview of the project which had involved designing, supplying and installing 250 Foambags and Foam stoppers into the BEPO storage block to enable future decommissioning. The project was delivered proficiently, on time and within budget.

Over 20 countries were represented at the UKTI event and delegates included officials from government, utilities, nuclear vendors and industry. The Steve Vick presentation was well received and the event was very well attended, it proved an excellent opportunity for open discussion with ambassadors of the nuclear industry.
