Steve Vick elected Honorary Fellow of IGEM
July 29, 2025
We’re delighted to share some wonderful news – our Chairman, Steve Vick, has been elected an Honorary Fellow of IGEM, recognising a lifetime of dedication and contribution to the gas industry.
Steve’s journey began in 1975 at Scottish Gas, where he worked in network analysis before moving on to an engineering role in the Borders and Dumfries district. A few years later, in 1978, he joined ALH Systems Ltd as a development engineer, focusing on leakage control innovations.
When the cast iron mains replacement programme began, Steve identified an opportunity to develop innovative products for the emerging technique of inserting polyethylene (PE) pipe into the existing metallic distribution network. In 1981, together with his wife Angela, he founded his own company, Steve Vick International Ltd. Since then, the company has become a recognised leader in mains and service replacement technologies and now employs approximately 116 people. Steve Vick International Ltd has earned significant industry recognition, winning the prestigious “Company of the Year” award at the Gas Industry Awards in both 2015 and 2022.
Steve has made significant contributions to IGEM over the years. He has served on the IGEM Council and held key roles within the South West Section, including both committee member and chairman. From 2004 to 2010, he represented IGEM on the International Gas Union’s distribution working committee, completing two three-year terms. Additionally, he has chaired IGEM’s Company Member Section. Throughout his involvement, Steve has consistently encouraged his colleagues to join IGEM and has actively supported his company’s participation in IGEM events whenever possible.
Reflecting on his award of Fellowship, Steve shared:
“Since becoming a Chartered Gas Engineer in 1984, the Institution has been such an important part of my life, providing me with a strong network of support, both technically and socially. I have made so many friends over the years through my membership of the Institution and I’m both honoured and grateful that my colleagues have recommended my elevation to the status of Honorary Fellow.”
Congratulations, Steve – this is a well-deserved recognition, and we’re proud to celebrate it with you.

Steve Vick
