Predominantly our work has been in the gas industry but increasingly we are undertaking projects in the water and nuclear sectors. As we expand our operations and diversify our products, this position will support a talented and established design and development team to help maintain SVI’s market position in the gas, water, and nuclear markets.

- Construct conceptual and detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software.
- Undertake product design improvements when required.
- Analyse failures and rejects to improve and inform future designs.
- Function well in a collaborative arena and be open-minded about new ideas, as well as bringing your own ideas to design discussions.
- Identify new ideas or potential problems within the utilities industry and present potential conceptual designs and ideas to tackle these problems.
- Produce written reports detailing design, testing results, conclusions, and recommendations. These reports will potentially be viewed by customers and clients during and after innovation projects.
- Work within the development team to produce conceptual ideas for products and services that can be manufactured and supplied to the UK utilities industries. These currently include gas, water, and nuclear.
- On occasion, travel within the UK to observe, assess, and report on the field trial use of products that you have designed for specific projects.
- Attend exhibitions and industry meetings to improve your knowledge of the industry and help identify possible business opportunities.
- Attend meetings with customers to support the Senior Development Manager in a business development function.
- Keep up to date on any technology changes that may affect engineering design and development; actively participate in industry training courses provided by SVI or industry specialists.
About you:
- You will have experience and/or interest in the design of moving parts and small/medium machinery.

- You can evidence a strong working knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD, together with experience of new product introduction, reworking design changes and upgrades through to production.
- You can demonstrate the ability to function as part of a creative design team where teamwork and collaboration are key to the successful delivery of projects.
