Working with the SVI Site Coordinator and Project Manager, we are looking to appoint a skilled and dedicated Field Technician who will work in true partnership with our clients to deliver on-site services to those who require systems for the safe removal, remediation or inspection of water, nuclear and gas utility networks.

Job Type:                                            Permanent, full time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 – 17:00 37.5 hours per week

Salary:                                                 Dependent on experience

Steve Vick International (SVI) is dedicated to delivering cost-saving solutions for damaged, redundant, or outdated pipework. Since its foundation in 1981, SVI has been at the forefront in developing products and techniques for the repair, renovation and decommissioning of pipes. Predominantly our work has been in the gas industry but increasingly we are undertaking projects in the water and nuclear sectors.

 

Role Purpose

The role is designed to deliver optimal performance and customer satisfaction in a safety critical environment through the installation and operation of specialist equipment and technical applications.

Our new Field Technician will be responsible for maintaining high standards of safety, quality and compliance with regulatory requirements within various industries including Nuclear, Water, and Gas.

 

Success Factors

To excel in the role of Field Technician, you must demonstrate solid delivery of operational support by showcasing a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in various field environments. You must be proficient in the use of hand tools and small mechanised tools and equipment.

Success in the role would also be viewed as the ability to adapt to changing conditions and demands, demonstrating resilience and a proactive approach to challenges.

You will role model clear communication, ensuring accurate information exchange and alignment amongst team members.

The role holder will actively seek opportunities for ongoing professional development by staying informed about advancements in technology and industry best practices.

 

Competencies, Skills and Knowledge

  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in a similar field technician role
  • Proficient in using tools and equipment, with a strong understanding of technical systems and components
  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to resolve technical issues safely and efficiently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical individuals and to converse with staff at all levels
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, with a high degree of self-motivation
  • Willing to travel and work away from home in various field locations as required
  • Hold a current UK driving licence
  • Willing to be vetted for UK security clearance levels for certain UK sites (SC and DV)
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment
  • Comfortable working in various environments, including working at height, confined spaces, and outdoor and industrial settings. Training will be given to the successful applicant if required

 

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with specific equipment or systems relevant to the industry (hand tools, small power tools, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic machinery)
  • Certifications in relevant technical areas (EUSR or CSCS cards)
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards

 

Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • Confidently install and operate SVI specific and standard equipment and systems according to training, specifications, and requirements of the project
  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment issues on-site, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal functionality
  • Provide technical support and training to clients and end-users when required, addressing any operational concerns or questions
  • Identify issues and provide solutions and improve system performance of equipment and process while on site
  • Work with the Site Coordinator and Project Manager to maintain a Safe System of Work throughout a project
  • Develop positive relationships with customers and clients by delivering high-quality service and support to SVI’s standards
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and others in a safety critical environment
  • Learn new technologies, and best practices to enhance skills and service quality
