Design Manager

The Design Manager is responsible for leading the design function at Steve Vick International, ensuring the successful delivery of innovative, safe, and cost-effective engineering solutions. This role will oversee the design process from concept through to production, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to support the company’s mission of providing high-quality products and services to the gas, water, and nuclear sectors.

Responsible for:                                 Development Department & Staff

 

Job Type:                                                Full time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Competencies, Skills and Knowledge

  • Technical Expertise – Strong background in mechanical or product design, ideally within the gas, water, or utilities sectors.
  • Leadership & People Management – Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team of designers and engineers.
  • Project Management – Skilled in planning, scheduling, and managing resources to meet deadlines.
  • Communication Skills – Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to present ideas clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving – Analytical and creative approach to developing solutions for complex engineering challenges.
  • Industry Knowledge – Understanding of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Software Skills – Proficiency in CAD software (preferably Inventor or similar) and general MS Office tools.

 

Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead, support, and manage the design team, set objectives, monitor performance, and support professional development.
  • Oversee all design projects from concept through to production release, ensuring compliance with technical, quality, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with sales, production, Project Management and QSHE teams to define customer requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.
  • Manage design documentation, drawings, and data in accordance with company standards and industrial regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement within the design function.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and support to team members and other departments.
  • Liaise with suppliers, customers, and regulatory bodies as required.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation and company policies in all design activities.
  • Report on project progress, and design resource to senior management.
