Steve Vick International Ltd is pleased to announce the acquisition of South + West Pipe Tools. The company will retain its name and will be operated as a division of Steve Vick International, based in Bath.
South + West Pipe Tools is the sole supplier in the UK of Keel cutters, machines that automatically cut steel, cast iron, ductile iron and other types of pipes up to 1500mm diameter. The pipe cutter is powered by a hydraulic power pack allowing the blade to track automatically around the circumference of the pipe wall.
The company was founded and operated for many years by Pat and Mary O’Connell who are now retiring. Steve Vick, Managing Director of Steve Vick International, says “We are delighted to acquire this business and have been working closely with Pat and Mary during the hand-over period to ensure that customers experience a seamless change. The product range fits in extremely well with our own portfolio of products and services developed over the last 30 years for the pipe replacement and renovation industry.”
With customers primarily in the equipment hire and utilities sectors, South + West Pipe Tools currently supplies two models of pipe cutter—the N450 which cuts pipes up to 900mm diameter and the N600 which handles pipes up to 1500mm diameter. Both are available for purchase or for hire, the N450.
The machines, which are approved by National Grid for use on gas mains, are capable of cutting steel, cast iron, ductile iron, asbestos, cement and plastic pipe. Typically, a 300mm diameter cast iron pipe can be cut in eight minutes. An advantage of the Keel cutter is that minimum clearance is required around the pipe (only 200mm to 250mm) helping to reduce the size of excavation required. The machines are lightweight, easy to set up and operate and can even work under water. The cut edge can be bevelled if required to aid welding.
The system comprises the pipe cutting assembly, hydraulic motor, extension chains, water coolant tank, wedges, tool kit and security carrying box. Various blades are available from South + West Pipe Tools for different pipe materials as well as hydraulic power packs, accessories and spares.
