180 COIL TRAILER NOW CONFORMS TO NEW WORKING AT HE13 Oct 2008
STEVE VICK INTERNATIONAL TRAILERS NOW CONFORM TO GIS/E49 STANDARD
Steve Vick International has revised the design of its largest pipe coil trailer to conform with the new Gas Industry Standard, GIS/E49 specification (covering Working at Heights).
The design of the new 180 trailer avoids the need for the operator to climb on the trailer to access the rear loading gate. Instead the gate can be opened from the ground using a lever mechanism. Opening this rear gate enables the coil of PE pipe to be loaded onto the trailer’s central rotating drum – a special feature of Steve Vick International trailers. The central drum design ensures that the PE pipe is pulled off the trailer smoothly during dispensing.
The 180 model is the largest of Steve Vick International’s three pipe coil trailers. It handles coils of PE with diameter from 40mm to 180mm and accommodates coil lengths up to 100 metres of 180mm diameter PE or up to 550 metres of 90mm pipe.
A major advantage of the 180 trailer is that when loaded with the largest coil, it can be towed by a typical long wheelbase vehicle.
Other models in the company’s range include the 160 trailer which handles 100 metre coils of 160mm PE as well as 380 metre coils of 125mm pipe, and the 50/90 which accommodates 100 metre coils of 90mm PE and 50 metre coils of 125mm.
Safety features built in to all Steve Vick international trailers include the steel cage design which constrains the coil and stops the pipe springing free. The inner end of the PE is secured to the trailer’s frame during transport and dispensing. The outer end is constrained until dispensing begins to prevent the sudden movement of the pipe.
Trailers are fitted with a robust jockey wheel and support legs to ensure stability on site and auto brakes and full road lights are included. Larger models have a re-rounder unit fitted as standard to remove any ovality in the pipe as it is dispensed (the unit is an optional extra on the smallest model).
Existing owners of Steve Vick International 180 trailers will be able to request retro-fitting of the rear access gate and removal of the climbing steps to bring their trailers within the GIS/E49 specification.
